Under the watchful eye of Gibralfaro Castle, a lively and bustling city full of beautiful spots, such as the Alameda Principal or the La Farola promenade, is one of the most important tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, thanks to its climate, its beaches and its unbeatable range of golf courses.

Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans.... the main Mediterranean civilizations found in Malaga more than two millennia ago a privileged enclave for the establishment of trade routes, thanks to the strategic location of its port.

The Alcazaba (8th-11th centuries) is, besides being one of the symbols of the city, one of the largest Arab fortresses in Andalusia. The Archaeological Museum is housed in this building and contains valuable pieces from the Phoenician and Roman periods: from the Gibralfaro Castle (14th century), linked to the Alcazaba by a wall canvas, you can enjoy the best views of the city, which opens onto the sea with the port and the seafront promenade of La Farola, one of the main leisure areas of the city. At the foot of Gibralfaro are the Roman Theatre, the bullring (known as La Malagueta) and the historic centre of the city, in the centre of which stands the Cathedral (16th-18th centuries), also known as "La Manquita" (the Little Man) for its unfinished right-hand tower. This temple, of beautiful Renaissance style, preserves an interesting set of chapels that contain good examples of Andalusian imagery. In the old quarter there are other churches such as Santiago (15th-18th centuries), with its beautiful Mudejar tower, the Martyrs' tower, the Sacred Heart and the Santo Cristo de la Salud. Historical Malaga offers countless places and typical corners. Thus, you can admire the façade of the Town Hall, from the beginning of the 20th century, or the Plaza de la Merced, presided over by the Torrijos Monument, where the birthplace of the famous painter Pablo Ruiz Picasso is located. The route through the old town has to pass through the busy Pasaje de Chinitas, Granada Street, with the Museum of Fine Arts, or Larios Street, the main artery of the old town.

The capital of Málaga also has extensive green areas, such as the Park, the Main Alameda, the Puerta Oscura gardens and Pedro Luis Alonso.

A great advantage for your visit to Malaga is that all the points of interest are concentrated in the area known as the historic centre, where practically all its streets are pedestrianised.

This makes for a very comfortable and pleasant visit, where the atmosphere of the terraces of bars and restaurants becomes the main protagonist of your walk.

Three essential museums in Malaga:

The cultural development that Malaga has had in recent years, with the opening of new museums, has changed the image of this Andalusian city.

Of the various museums you will find in Malaga, from my point of view these are the three most advisable to visit, in personal order of preference.

Picasso Museum of Malaga where in twelve rooms you can see a very interesting and even curious selection of the work of the Malaga artist, with representation of his different periods.

Malaga Automobile Museum, with an exhibition of 91 classic cars from the collection of the Portuguese Joao de Magalhaes, and where you can also see curious complements of the automotive world.

Carmen Thyssen Museum, opened in the spring of 2011 in the Palace of Villalón in the 16th century, where you can see Spanish painting, and specifically Andalusian, with works in the romantic and traditional style.
